He's an Ironman!

2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run. All in a row. He finished in 12:20 while it was still light! Wooo Hooo, go Eric!

The swim was great. He rented a "real" triathlon wet suit and there was a leader line to keep on course with. It was one of his best times ever!

The bike was chanllenging with a really hilly course and strong cross and head winds. Eric still managed a good time and passed many of the 1/2 iron competitors who had started their race later than his.

The run was as reasonable as a marathon at the end of an ironman can be. His strategy to take it slow and easy really paid off and he was able to run well and even pick it up a bit after the half. He finished a strong and cheerful 15th out of a field of 94.

The kids even had fun they played on a playground convieniently located right at the finish line where they met a bunch of other "triathlon orphans" (just kidding Eric balanced training pretty well with other stuff). They did his victory lap with him (Max on the unicycle :-) ). I had made shirts that said "GO DAD" on the front and we all cheered him through the transitions as well. It was a really great experience.
